Using a 1931 Prohibition-era recipe handed down from generation-to-generation, Sextro Rye is truly legendary.
Small batch distilled in Prohibition-era replica 26 gallon stills and aged in 15 gallon barrels, Sextro Rye is handmade, hand bottled and hand labeled in Carroll County, Iowa.
Sextro Rye only uses ingredients from Carroll and Crawford counties. Even our patented stills were made down the road.
It is 1931 in Templeton, Iowa. Desperation abounds during the Great Depression. A mother on a farm in Templeton, Iowa does what she can to survive. Prohibition is in full force. She begins using her baking skills to craft rye. Due to the quality and reputation of rye made in Templeton, it becomes a nationally-renowned product. That lady is named Lorine Sextro. She was never caught and nearly took her family secret to her grave. Today, her grandson Heath Schneider is continuing that legacy making Sextro Rye the good old fashioned way.
Original. Authentic. This is Sextro Rye.
Born on a small farm in Iowa during the Prohibition era of the early 1930s, this White Rye's award winning recipe was originally crafted by grandmother and clandestine bootlegger, Lorine Sextro.
Aged 18 months in 15 gallon New American Oak barrels, our nationally acclaimed Aged Rye is made using a historically accurate 1931 recipe.
Our Private Reserve is distilled using a 100% rye grain Prohibition-era bootlegger's recipe. It is aged in two used oak barrels for at least 18 months. It has won more awards than we can name.
Truly unique, our award winning Vodka is crafted in custom stills in small batches and is charcoal filtered for purity.

The close ties and continued contact with original moonshining families gives [this rye] a connection to tradition and history that many can only claim to be inspired by.
Of all the stories we've heard, Sextro Rye has one of the best. A sip from this bootlegging grandma 1930s Prohibition-era recipe whisks us back to a simpler time when ingredients were local and whiskey was crafted by hand.
[This] White Rye is a very easy sipping rye that is lightly sweet. I’m not a consumer of White Dog generally. However, this is the very best that I’ve tried.
